Thornton River De-listed as “Impaired” by DEQJune 9, 2006: RappFLOW has received notice that the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has taken off of its list of “impaired” streams, the Thornton River below Sperryville from Confluence with North Fork Thornton River to the confluence with White Walnut Run. More information and maps to follow when they become available from DEQ. RappFLOW volunteers conducted in spring of 2005 a study of the small watershed area around the impaired segment of the Thornton River below Sperryville. Staff of the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District (CSWCD) have been working with landowners along the Thornton and its tributaries to implement Best Management Practices that protect the stream. Progress is being made!
