RappFLOW is involved in many activities in the county including education efforts at local schools and construction of an award winning outdoor environmental classroom at the elementary school (dedicated to Beverly Hunter who founded Rappflow in 2002). We have also created planting areas, a landscaped outdoor space with pollinator gardens and provided educational signage at schools and at Rappahannock County Park. RappFLOW is conducting water quality monitoring in the Rush River to identify sources of impairment. We have the following events planned –

  • April 16 – Sperryville Community Clean Up from 9am – 4pm volunteers will meet at the  Headmasters Pub. In addition to trash & litter pickup along the road and rivers, this event is expanded to include tree planting for water shed protection, biodiversity and to mitigate climate change.
  • April 21Earth Day Musical Assemblies for the Elementary School students will be held . A performance of the Recycling Pirates will be provided by the Goodlife Theater. It’s a rollicking musical about puppet characters created from trash. Led by Captain Jack Sparetire, they sail the urban seas looking for things to recycle, reuse, reduce and repair. Links about the program here.
  • April – Tree Planting – Native landscape makeover and “Secret Garden Classroom” at Rappahannock County Elementary School:  Hundreds of Native wildlife-friendly shrubs and perennials in a plan designed for beauty and function in our local ecosystem are being installed on Earth Week.  This project is in partnership with Friends of the Rappahannock.  It includes beautiful new plantings in the front of the school and a classroom area bordered by native plants in back of the school.  RappFLOW coordinated and funded this project with Rappahannock County Public Schools.
