Rappahannock Friends and Lovers of Our Watershed

Rappahannock River Tire Removal Project

What a wonderful day we had Saturday! No need for winches, durangos, shovels or four wheelers. We had a fantastic group of teenagers. Thanks to my son and daughters and their friends.

We traveled about 5 miles down the river, starting at the end of Hinsons Ford Lane. Surprisingly the river was not that low. We recovered 5 tires, 4 chairs, a roll of barbed wire, a arge piece of culvert, clothes and an uncountable number of opened and unopened beer bottles. We were not able to haul it all. Next time we will have more canoes.

Most trash was found on about a half mile stretch of the river where VERY CLEARLY people with four wheelers have regular parties. What a shame.

We will do this again. Hopefully we will be able to travel a bit further.

These guys did just a fantastic job!

Mr. McCarthy, thanks for your authorization to take tires to the landfill.
